Can anyone tell me what this means it is from my grandfather Robert Thomas Williams born 20/04/1885 served ww1 and ww2 this is from the 1939 register his occupation is down as corporal Williams S.R.T NoD.C.B Coy Att L.F D/14057
From the number of views, apparently not! Any chance of anything further to help? What did he serve in during WW1, might that have a bearing in whatever unit he was in during Round Two? Do any of the family have photos or reminiscences of what and where he was in the War? The more help you give, the more you may receive!
What is the '1939 Register'. ? I don't immediately recognise any abbreviations familiar from military records. Could it say "No D.O.B." ? - No Date of Birth...? Often the context and the type of document are the best clues. A scan of the paperwork will usually get a better response.
Simon, Your grandfather would be 55 years old in 1940. Too old by far for any but the Home Guard. Mike
Hi guys thank you for your responses. Kevin he was a despatch rider with the Royal Engineers Signal service I do have some photos I will have to scan and up load. Rich the 1939 register is a record of the civilian population as at 29th September 1939 take a look at www.hscic.gov.uk if you know where someone address was on that day you can apply for it and of this I have got back all that have since died at that address on that night it lists my grandfather name gender dob marital status and occupation and from that is what I've listed. Trux that is what I thought as well but as I was now armed with his exact date of birth I have phoned the historic disclosures in Glasgow and they have told me over the phone that they have a man with the same date of birth and name and address in the lancashire fusiliers I have applied for the records they have also said that it is a possibility that his ww1 records could have been attached to his second. They have said that it will take 9-12 months to get the records to me.the photo I have of him in ww2 clearly shows the East lancs cap badge. I do now that coy is company and att is attached the L.F I presume is lancashire fusilier so really it's the S.R.T No D.C. As B for Bcoy and I was wondering if the D/14057 could have been his number carried on from ww1 ??
