I have been asked at short notice by his family for any information of the service of 23604 Stanley Ronald Crosby.
He has recently passed away and they would like to relate to it at his Funeral.
All I have on his regular service is that he served with 5th Bn. Para. Reg . toward end of WW2
I have a lot of information about his later service with 10th. V..Bn. Para Regt .which he joined in 1956 as a WO2 so imagine he probably had that rank on leaving 5th Bn..
Any thing will help even if it is just what 5th Bn were doing at end of War.

    Hi

5 Para Btn were part of 2nd Para Brigade and went to Greece in October 1944 (Operation Manna).

In November they liberated Salonika in a amphibious assault (Operation Kelso)

In December 1944 they were involved in stopping a communist insurgency in Athens. I have a report which should be of some help.

Start a new conversation using the 'inbox' above with your email address in it and I'll send the report to you. Best not to post your email address here.

They went back to Italy at the end of February 1945.

As far as I am aware, the brigade went to Palestine sometime later.

    Hope this helps

    Gus
