Thank you for clarifying Tim… I honestly didn’t even know what the RASC was until very recently. I’m sorry if I’ve used the wrong terminology, but I have only just started to look into what my Grandad did during the war so please excuse me. I know that he drove huge tanker lorries so he was used to driving heavy machinery, so once he had qualified I’m sure he would have done. Attached is a photo of him.

Now that's a civilized, essential Driver. He deserved to be in a reserved occupation delivering Bulmers Hereford Cider to the thirsty masses!
    Was he from Herefordshire?
Dont worry about the military terminology no one is perfect and you obviously weren't in the Forces.
I've forgotten most of it and if in doubt asked the Sgt Major, they always knew everything in the book.
Easiest way to learn is to get it wrong, someone will be waiting to tell you the answer.

The Armed Forces however had a habit of ignoring what people COULD do, so taught them to do what THEY wanted.
    THEIR WAY.

Apologies not necessary - we're here to help and it's good that you are looking into your Grandad's service.

    Martina.

Bruneval is the guru on this site for 14 Coy RASC. He has posted the War Diaries that cover the period mentioned in the Service Record.

Haha.. I’m sure he was well received wherever he went! There are worse things to be delivering let’s just say!!
I’m sure that driving (even heavy goods vehicles) after his service was a walk in the park in comparison… and NO SAND!!
This photo would have been taken in Clonmel in Ireland I think.
I myself worked for the Court Service in London for many years, so I think I probably am used to Police terminology. A Police Officer would say they were attached to a particular Police Station, so I think that’s just the way I thought was the correct way to phrase it on my original post.
One learns from their mistakes as they say! Haha!
I’m sure everything had to be done to the letter, to this day, every man had orders to follow from the one above. Like a well oiled machine, it worked!

    Thank you for these 4jonboy

The video of the ruins is particularly eerie without sound… especially the close up of the helmet at the end. Some of the buildings would have been stunning I’m sure..

Evening All, Apologies if this is not the correct forum - does anyone out there know what 633 Coy G.T. (I think it was a DUKW Coy), got up to in Normandy? I can't seem to find where they went etc. I am researching a chap who embarked on the 11th June 44 and just keen to see where 633 went. Any help or steers would be very much appreciated. Many thanks :)

    Afternoon All,

I am researching a chap who embarked on 11th June 44 and was a Driver with 633 Coy GT RASC. Would anyone know the movements of 633 Coy in June 44 please? Any help or pointers would be hugely appreciated.

    Many thanks :)

    Hi Adam.

TD pointed out the number for the war diaries in the post above. We have members who can copy them for you at Kew, e.g. Try members Gary Tankard and PsyWar on here, as I am sure they can help you when they visit.
