Hi guys I am in need of a little help please. I am looking for the service of John Conway born in thurnscoe in 1918. In the 1939 register he shows up as living at 2 Quarry vale cudworth with his wife Lilly but then he vanishes. I thought I had found his death in France but turned out it wasn’t him. Unfortunately I have no other information no soldier number ect. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Well he served in the Royal Artillery going by the cap badge. I can't read the shoulder title clearly, but could be RA. Scott
Thanks guys iv just searches the RA Attestation books and 200 John conways come up non for Thurnscoe where he was born
Do you know/can you confirm if this is his birth details England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007 Name: John Conway Registration Date: 1918 Registration district: Doncaster Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding Re-registration Year: 1918 Mother's Maiden Name: Bookland Volume Number: 9c Page Number: 1474 TD do you have his exact birth date?
I agree, please supply as much information as you can, it helps tremendously. As far as I can see Lily is the only person to show up at 2 Quarry Vale, no John is there. One closed record that may be a child.
That is his record it’s spot on I have posted before of his brother Stanley Conway. His parents were George Patrick and Elizabeth bootland not brookland I have reported that error. John was born at number 59 church street Thurnscoe.
The surname of Bookland is as printed in the GRO registers, so the error is not with Ancetry or FMP - suggest you submit it as 'alternative information' but it would be good to supply some evidence as well.
So to ask again - what is Johns full date of birth. There are a few John Conways who appear to have emigrated to North Amercia in the 1950's and then returned but at this point they could have easily disappeared from the family history TD
Trying a different tack and following the wifes line but to do that we need to know her maiden name so I assume the marriage details will be the following: Name: John Conway Registration Date: Apr-May-Jun 1938 Registration district: Barnsley Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding Spouse: Lily Bromwell Volume Number: 9c Page Number: 594 Need confirmation by OP TD
yes that's right tricky I ordered the certificate now it shoes the address of 64 lunn road that is where his mother lived after his father took his own life
I also have a a census record from 1939 lilly is on there but the other person is blacked out now I am not saying it is john but I can not get it uncovered has I have no death certificate for him
As the address is on the same line as Lily I would hazard a guess to say that John is not the other name, as he would [using general 1939 register 'rules'] be named first at a particular address. The missing name could be a lodger for example. In post 1 you say he was born in 1918, on his birth details [post 6, if these are his details] he is registered as born 1918, yet his marriage certificate in 1938 he has stated that he is 22 years of age [therefore born 1916] So to ask again for the 3rd time - what is his actual date of birth dd/mm/yyyy ? TD

Maybe I’m missing something here in which I apologise. I can not provide you with a specific date as I don’t have johns BC as yet I am still waiting for GRO. The 1918 date I got from FMP civil births and baptisms records in thurnscoe which states that brookland his mother I believe this to be the wrong spelling. As you correctly pointed out johns age in 1938 is 22 years old on his marriage certificate which would make johns birth year 1916. Would it be possible he got baptised in 1918 ? Or the emmerator has it wrong. Or I’m wrong and this birth isn’t johns ?. As mentioned earlier I have no other information on John as after 1938 he seems to have disappeared from the records. In 1939 his wife Lilly seems to be living at 2 quarry vale in cudworth this home was also the home of johns brother and his wife before hand.
To progress, facts are required, and the first facts needed are his real birth date, and, as you say above, his birth cert is 'on its way' to you. Hopefully with that, more details can be found. Its possible that he lied about his age in 1938 when he married. I wouldn't think he was born in 1916 then registered in 1918 - again the birth cert should answer that TD
