I am happy to report that with the help of Paul's database we found details about a Gunner. Information was requested by his daughter who knew hardly anything about her father except that he was with the Para's.
    Good job Paul...

I purchased MS Access as a single add on prduct for my Home and Student version of Office 2007. I see that it is now also available for Office 2010. Look around on the internet for some very good prices.

I would recommend using this type of product for your project as it can be set up as a "Relational Database" which is far more efficient than anything you could do in Excel.

    Hi John,

I have been using a piece of software I bought from Databaseoasis.com. It's not brilliant but it was cheap and it allows you to design your own pages. I know a lot of people have been recommending "Access" as the way to go but I'm not sure if I could transfer the data across now that I've started and there is NO WAY IN HELL I am going to start from scratch again!!

    All the best mate............ :)

Thanks fellas. This project really has "taken hold" of me and I spend every spare minute working on it but I think it will still take a VERY LONG time to finish, especially at the rate new books are coming out!

Speaking of which, as a result of my work on the database I posted a question on another thread about Lt. Donald Douglass of 2 Para.

Horsapassenger quickly sprung into action (thanks very much John ;)) and together we think we have sorted out the query. The upshot of all this is that Horsapassenger has unearthed what I believe to be a hitherto unheard of "Arnhem" book written by Donald Douglass and his wife!! I'll post the details on the "Book" thread.

    All the best.........:)
