Have found WW2 Training Record for friends grandfather (Essex Regiment/Royal Tank Regiment). Written in it are:- 3rd Class Education Completed R.T what do these mean? BATMAN (specialist employment whilst serving)???? D/C National Service? Medical grounds this note was stuck in the front of service book not addressed to anyone??? Also Passed Chamber Test and Passed Test for No111??? Id be very grateful if anyone could help with these abbreviations. Thankyou
Hi Footymum For Batman, this is what I usually think of - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(military) 3rd class education- how far he went with his school education D/C - didn't complete?? his National Service due to Medical Grounds not sure on the rest regards Robert Chamber test and No. 1's sounds a bit weird!!!
We also have a photo of him in Royal Tank Regiment Uniform, with RP on the left wrist cuff, what does this stand for?
Hi, just a guess but could RT be radio transmission or radio telegraphy? As for 'chamber' test did WW2 tank crews do gas training? Could be a gas chamber/respirator test like current services do. It might be worth scanning and posting the record here and the RTR photo, some things might become a little clearer.
DC was listed as Deferment Category. the date of call up could be deferred to allow finish of education/apprenticeships or in some cases medical grounds. (short term illness) In this context RT looks to be recruit training. Basic. RP Regimental Provost (Police) Chamber test and Test No 111 - probably in Gas Training Manual 1942 (I will try and track down)
