A Riddle from Warhem Communal Cemetery. Just remembered I did the whole cemetry a couple of years ago.

Do you happen to have headstone photographs of the following two casualties interred at Warhem Communal Cemetery, by any chance please?

    (a) NICHOLSON, JOHN HENRY
    Rank: Lance Corporal
    Service No: 3595237
    Date of Death: 01/06/1940
    Age: 30
    Regiment/Service: Border Regiment, 5th Bn.
Grave Reference: Row A. Grave 23.
Cemetery: WARHEM COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord (France).

    (b) LOWE, ALBERT
    Rank: Private
    Service No: 3600358
    Date of Death: 01/06/1940
    Age: 21
    Regiment/Service: Border Regiment, 5th Bn.
Grave Reference: Row B. Grave 9.
Cemetery: WARHEM COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord (France)

These two West Cumbrians served in 5th Border (T.A.) with Pte. Riddle and died the same day. They were lost in the withdrawal to Dunkirk.
    .
Thanks if you can assist, ramacal.

They would have been defending the canal line at the end of May/begin of June along with many other units. Look for a thread in the 1940 section called 'walking in the footsteps of the BEF' for more details and pictures of the canal etc.

Your right it is hard to read but thanks very much.
