I'm Liz and I'm currently researching the history of my Gt Grandfather Walter Albert Boyden. So far I know he was in 4th Batallion Buffs and was held as PoW in Germany for 3 1/2 years.. I am looking to gain more information but not having much luck so far Look forward to chatting :)

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

Have you applied to U.K. MOD for a copy of his Army service papers yet?

Get a copy of military service records: Apply for the records of someone who's deceased

You’ll need a copy death certificate and pay £30. Takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get a reply.

Your best bet to discover his POW history is to apply to ICRC in Switzerland via this link -

Requests for information about people held during the Spanish Civil War or the Second World War: Quarterly limit reached

The next opportunity to apply will be 14th May. You need to be quick off the mark as past experience shows the application window will close after 48 hours.

It’s a free service and it can take 8 to 10 weeks to receive copy papers.

    Good Luck

Yes I have his basic MoD papers but the hand writing is dreadful so I can only get snippets of information.

Thanks for the link, I'll make sure it's in my diary

If you post the records you have members may be able to assst with interpretation.

What do you mean by basic MOD papers?
