Hi there, Im Ali and my aim is to gain as much info as possible on my granddad's records. He was with the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry during WW2. I have many photos of his time of service and it comes in a very authentic wooden photo album with the Jerusalem temple on the front. I also have some of his medals. I know this isn't the research bit but thought id put that in. Cheers
Hi Owen, Thank you, if you mean the book I ordered it this morning. I have so many photos I am hoping it helps other people as well. A lot of tank photos and Africa photos by the looks of it
That's the one , yes. Original or the reprint? I have an original one on my shelf. Have you got his service records from the MoD ?
I don't no I won't lie, it's the link from here on one of the threads. No I haven't I have spoken to Chippenham and Swindon and they advised that but I need his death certificate and then send it all off which I haven't done yet
Massive thank you to Owen. The book finally came and I have found when he joined, what squadron he was in and his troop number. Just waiting on his death certificate for MOD. Thank you
Also, is it worth getting the other book by Platt or are they very similar? Regards. Ali P.S I should be able to upload photos soon
From experience, what sort of thing's do you find out from the MOD? Is it quite in depth, I have no real expectations and I don't want to end up disappointed in what may be sent, obviously different cases differ
Thank you Owen, that would by far exceed my expectations on what I thought I may get. Good news this morning is I have found his death certificate so its all ready to go off to the MOD. Massive thank you!
Hi Ali, I would be very interested in hearing about your grandfathers service in the RWY. Please drop me a message.
This may be of interest. “Primus in Armis” from the same publisher has more detail from the Second World War including tank and some crew names.
