    Hi everyone,

I thought it was about time I got around to joining this site as there is a wealth of excellent info on here for just about every aspect of WW2.

My own personal connection with WW2 came from my Grandfather going ashore on D-Day at Sword Beach with the 2nd Bn Royal Warwickshire Regt and then right through France and Germany to Bremen.

Also being brought up on a diet of WW2 films and Airfix models my interest grew quickly!

I've been to many sites through out Europe and the UK and will get some of the photos up when I get a chance.

    Regards,

    Jon

Thanks for all the welcomes guys.

    Andy,

I'm not sure when he joined the Warwicks. At the outbreak of war he was in a reserved occupation (carpenter/builder) as he initially wanted to join the RAF.

However he joined the TA, the name of the regt escapes my mind right now, but then he transferred to the Northants (unsure of what Bn) then was a L/Cpl when he joined the Warwicks and went ashore on D-Day.

I'm in the process of researching his army service but haven't done a lot mainly due to work being so busy. Hopefully this year I'll get more info. One thing I do remember him telling me before he passed away was he crossed Pegasus Bridge on the evening of June 6th, so along with Sword /beach, that area will always be very special to me.

    Jon

    Welcome, Jon

I'm intrigued by your User Name, which has no connection to the Warwicks. Are you also interested in the 17th Airborne?

dmjy you would get a better response if you created your own thread introducing yourself.Posting on another persons thread just gets thing in a muddle.

    Steve,

My interest in WW2 stretches far beyond the Warwicks. Living near Leicester I have a keen interest in the 82nd Abn and the 17th Abn purely as they are a Division that is so often over looked.

    Never a truer word!

Hence, a major reason for my writing The Last Drop.AnythingI can help with, let me know.Steve W.
