You should start your own thread, and post as much information that you have already. Make sure you post your grandfather's name, the members here are able to search a number of databases and can and do pass on a great deal of information.

    Thread already split ;)

Sound advice from BFBSM, the more you can share the better we can help.

We always ask - Has anyone in the family applied for a copy of his service records yet?

I'm sure someone will look up the War diary refs for you soon.

How deeply do you want to research your grandfather - his likely service path, or just the background surrounding his death?

Hi Sarah and welcome to the forum.
I already have the battalions diary for their quick visit to France in 1940. Do you know when he joined up?

    Regards

    Welcome to the forum Sarah.

Are you sure your grandfather was killed during Operation Infatuate - the clearing of Walcheren and the Beveland Islands? I only ask because that operation only started on the 1 November 1944, a few days after he was killed. There were a few Operations before that, all part of clearing the path to and across the Scheldt Estuary, for example, Operation Pheasant - the capture of Tilburg - in which the 7th Battalion, Cameronians were invloved only finished on the 28 October 1944. That said, the troops would probably have been moved on to the next objective pretty swiftly!

Hope this map, which shows the area at that time, is helpful...
