  1. Just joined the Forum today!!! Looking forward to read the multiple posts. I collect medals and other Militaria and love doing the research. I just acquired a Miniature medal group to Major Eric Nelson Mainwaring and I have found some topics on him on the Forum, so that is a good start. Happy collecting and research.

    Cheers

    Bonjour Pierre!
I also now live outside of Toronto but spent many years living in Kingston and travelling often to the Ottawa area (Arnprior etc)
Welcome to the forum and perhaps you has dealings with the military store that used to be in my town, The Grenadier?

  9. Many thanks for the welcome. No I never dealt with the Grenadiers. I used to go by Arnprior when I was posted to Petawawa with the Canadian Airborne Regiment (1986-1990). Kingston is such a beautiful place, I love it!!!

    Pierre,
Welcome to the forum. I am from Toronto but I am a diehard Habs fan! Perhaps you can share some of your experiences from the now disbanded Airborne Regiment?

    Hello from Yorkshire :)

  16. Thank you so much to all of you for your warm welcome and information from Canada and the UK.:)

Tony56 thank you so much for the info on Mainwaring.and the links greatly appreciated. A bit funny his initial is E.N. Eric Nelson, but now I saw in other places that his initial was E.A. and now you showing me E.C. anyways those are details when they wrote the war diaries and so on.

  17. Hello 17thDYRCH,

It was a sad time when they Disband the C.A.R. but again it does not excuse the bad things that happen in Somalia and so on, but they were waiting for that moment to crush the Regiment. The only other thing I can say is I served proudly during those four years and it made me a better Soldier and it brought me to the top of my shape and of course a special camaraderie. I earned my wings, I earned my coin and no one can take that away from me!!!

    Cheers
    Pierre

    Pierre,
Thank you for your service. Your regiment was an offshoot from the First Special Service Force and of course the first Canadian Parachute Regiment. ( www.1canpara.ca ) PM Chretien took the easy way out and disbanded the Regiment. Along the way, the government decided to starve the military to avoid tough procurement decisions. Hello....seaking helicopters.

    Pierre, Ooooooooops!!!

So sorry, the initials on the casualty forms in my post #14 should be ‘E.N.’ – I think my mind was ahead of my fingers!!!
I have edited the original post. Sorry again.
