i,m jon Black, dad Harold was in 6th Airborne, 12 Devons. Has anybody got any info about the 12th Devons in the Ardennes they can share? I think i,m correct in saying they fought alonside the Ox and Bucks in most occasions and 30 corps tanks. Dad was sent there by boat to support the americans and was engaged with Tiger tanks at one point, he said all we could do was aggravate them! I showed him a photo of soldiers in white camo gear, but he told me they were rushed out there in their normal gear. Any more info would be great, on here or to me jon_black7@msn.com, thanks in advance.
Jon - Attached a fragment of the War Diary of the 12th Devons for the first half of January 1945. Half January they moved up north to Holland to occupy a defensive position along the River Meuse near Venlo. Hope this is of help. Fabulos response, thanks
Does anybody know the name of the troopship or vessel that carried the Devons from Folkstone to Ostend on their way to the Ardennes at the end of December 1944? Dad mentioned a destroyer that he was on that listed badly at some stage, but that may have been on their way home from elsewhere.
Hi Jon Black My grandad Fred Dalley fought in the Ardennes with the 12th Devons. I've attached a great paper cutting that I think my Nan took while he was there. Do you have any photos? All the best Alex
