Hello all Just thought it would be right to introduce myself. I'm from the North of England and I'm proud to be so. I'm also absolutely delighted to be here amongst you. My WW2 interests lie primarily within Europe and includes BEF in 1940, the Battle of Britain, Italy, NW Europe and the Eastern Front. However, I have recently been studying the campaigns in Greece, Crete and North Africa and I hope that this forum may help add to that education. I read an awful lot. I buy books faster than I can read them and the unread pile continues to grow. Tonight I finished War Without Garlands by Robert Kershaw and it is an excellent study of the opening stages of Barbarossa. I also love to read and study maps and contemporary documents. War diaries are a particular favourite. I have many from the Great War but sadly none from the war discussed here. I live miles from the NA and as they seem unwilling to put them online I'm unable to view. Is there a chance to view some here perhaps? Cheers.
Welcome to the forum. There a quite a few people here who do War Diary research. I've put a few online here: Collection: WW2 War Diaries
Thank you Paul. I recognise the name. Your book on the Somme is required reading. I went on one of your companies tours early this year. Vic Puik was the guide, the most enthusiastic man on any subject I think I have ever met! 10 minutes in and I've got maps and diaries to view. A late night beckons.
Bill, Hello and welcome to the forum. I have posted my late Fathers 4th Reconnaissance Corps War Diaries for 1944 and 1945. See under. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/recce/29624-4th-reconnaissance-regiment-war-diaries.html They make interesting reading, as I am sure most war dairies do. Regards Tom
Ooooo another BEF Buff ! I think we are slowly taking over the world starting with this forum Welcome Komrad
