Welcome to the forum. 2 Devons were with 1 Dorsets & 1 Hampshires on Malta before their brigade became 231st Brigade. They left Malta in April 1943 to got to Egypt to reequip & train for the landings on Sicily. After fighting on Sicily they landed in southern Italy at Porto San Venere, morning of 8th Sept '43. Not long after that they returned to Uk to get ready for Overlord.

willywills - It should also be noted that the Brigadier in Command of 231 St bde in both Malta and Sicily was a chap called Roy Urquhart who was promoted to Major General of the 1st Airborne Division which , as we all know , were slaughtered at Ahrnem... Cheers
