    Hello All,

great website - been really informative in my research so far :)

I'm currently writing up my Grandad's war story for him - at 92 he's still going very strong !

He was 927544 Gunner Oliver, in 329 Battery 83rd Field Regiment Royal Artillery - he joined it in Newport, 1939, as a TA unit when war broke out but it quickly became mobilised - would love to hear from anyone with info or relatives from the same Regiment. I'll post some snippets up from the memoires when they are complete...also sorting through a number of Photos too with him.

    Cheers,

    Olly :poppy:

Hi and welcome, this war diary from 1944 may be of interest. Have a look round the forum there may be more.

That's a great resource. One of the few mentions of 329 battery i've found :)

I think his unit also was in the Ardennes in the winter of 1944/45

I think he was - havent got that far through typing his notes up yet but he was certainly all over France, Belgium and the Netherlands before ending up in Germany. Learning a lot more about the War very rapidly !

Ahhh - just found a B&W picture of a Jeep half buried in snow and on the back it has "Ardennes" written in my grandfathers handwriting so that confirms

    Welcome to the forum Olly!

I own a 329 Battery 1944 Christmas Card, which may interest you. Got a large amount on them as they supported 158 Brigade throughout the fighting in NWE.

Also that Jeep photo - I believe it'll be the 'generic' 53 Div jeep photo you see in the majority of stuff relating to 53 Div, taken in the Ardennes and every chap had a copy of it (for some reason) original photographer is unknown - possibly someone in the admin part of the Division associated with Bolland.

I trust you've acquired Red Crown and Dragon by Patrick Delaforce, Barclay's History of 53rd Welsh Division, and my offering will be out later this year...

Very, very interested to see photos of 83 Field Regiment mate.

Indeed, but the remit of the first one is Normandy - so I can give the whole campaign justice really.

I have had a break from the scanning and writing due to work being ridiculous but will put some up shortly - would be really interested to see the Christmas Card though.

Shame if the jeep photo is generic - we'll soon see.

I've managed to get hold of the Delaforce book, I believe my Grandad has the other book. Hes still got the "Overlord" book that crops up sometimes so will go see him soon and see what else he has !

Finally created a Flikr account today - photos will be going up here - Flickr: Olly_2000's Photostream only a few for now will scan more today

Great photos Olly. Did your grandfather's Humber Mk III / IV(?) have a name? Going by the serial number I am guessing that the serial number is F117769. I would be interested to see more.

    cheers

Spot on ! I have another picture (will scan it shortly) of my Nan sitting atop the same car, with the s/n F117769 clearly visible.
