The Best game ever! In Hearts of Iron 2 you can play all the nations witch were at that time and play the WW2 like it was or do whatever you like! I strongly recommend this game. It is the best WW2 risk game ever.
You can mix up the political veiws in the government and build armies and invate the neighbouring country.
    Here follow some screenshots:

It looks like it might be a slow paced game. I have considered it because I like chess and risk and throw WWII in it and it can be interesting. I don't most people would like this game because they like the fast paced FPS games. I have read a lot of people say it is a terrific game but I have never played it. It also may have a steep learning curve.

I have always wanted something that would model war so I try out hypothesis. Especially if you can adjust the levels for each side and they properly model the actual countries.

I played the original Hearts of Iron and it was excellent. I'd definietely like to try this one. Not for the Faint-Hearted and as Jimbo says it is a VERY STEEP learning curve.

would it run on a 1.7 Laptop with a good quality chipset?
looks like my kind of game.
(I like 'em dreary and needing 4 days to have a clue what's going on, no. really. I do like that kind of game.)

It will definitively work (just make sure you have 512 Ram). Anyway, the game is not really hard to learn as long as it is not your first wargame ever.

I went to order this... There's "hearts of Iron II" and "hearts of iron 2 doomsday", both seem standalone, should i just get 'doomsday' or will i miss out on some aspect of the other/earlier game??? I've had this happen before... Someone explain please.

    Finally got The 'doomsday' version.
    Blimey!
I've got Germany Allied with Poland and the Scandinavian countries against the Soviet Union, the SS Expeditionary force is doing quite well in America despite massive losses crossing the Sea and the inevitable future loss of their supply convoys (though the Nuclear research will hopefully provide some 'solutions' there), Heinrici's mechanised Armeekorps have just completed the domination of Italy and Trade relations with the British are very good ever since France was removed from the map........

Highly reccomend this mind-numbingly complicated game. You also actually learn/clarify quite a lot about the personalities, geography, research and resource problems in ww2. And for 'What if's' it's wonderful.
(and it's really cheap in 'Game' at the moment)

very amusing, that seems like something fun. But as quoted earlier, what kind of previous wargames would add up to enough expirence to play this one?

In HoI (the first one) the USA sat out the war against Japan and so I as Australia :) had to fight them. I managed to push them all the way back to their home islands before I ran out of manpower and then New Zealand invaded and took the Japanese home islands. Was so very funny.

I need to play HoI2 a bit more. Only played it for a couple of days as I have too many games and was playing the others.

its no doubt the so many different things you can do in the game, but if not already stressed, you may lose over the thing trying to get alright!
I played Blitzckeig in 41 as germany, and subsequantly got invaded by France and ENgland, with poland and checoslavzkia not going down despite throwing 90% of my army at them!

I bought the game online and I got it today. It is good. At the moment I am building up my military as the U.S, after all its only 1937.

I've just got this off a mate at work. It looks horribly complicated. The tutorials are hard enough. I'm used to MoH and the like, but I will persevere

It is indeed Horribly complicated... but well worth it. Prepare to have your brain scrambled..... and never forget the importance of oil;)
