O why should I be loth to die.
Who lived so long in pain.
I had rather chuse to go to Christ.

Here is one in Malmesbury Abbey churchyard.

    stone600.jpg
    In bloom of life
    She's snatched from hence
She had not room to make defence
For Tyger fierce took life away
    And here she lies
    In a bed of clay
    Until the resurrection day

Not many tigers in Malmesbury in 1703 I wouldn't have thought!

My friends think I'm a bit odd for spending time in cemeteries & looking at graves.

Best place to be when you need a chill ratching around a cemetery that's where you'll find me.

Don't have a photo but there is the famous headstone for a Brigadier, accidentally shot by his batman. "Well done thou good and faithful servant"

I often walk around cemeteries. I know family and friends think it odd.
    Odd? Not at all.
Cemeteries, are open air museums. And all for free.

Always my first port of call when on holiday or a day out. I have noticed that there is a recent trend in having a name and date of birth on a headstone but no date of death. I am presuming that wife/husband has died and their spouse has their name engraved awaiting their own demise.

Not for everyone but I find cemeteries to be fascinating places as well. A great way to understand the history of a community.
