    Hello everyone,

My Great grandfather Harry Clitheroe, after serving in WW1 ion the treches and then went home. started a family.
And then 1939... WW2 happens... so he joins up and ends up at "Dunkirk".

As of 4th September 1939 he is enlisted according to some of his letters home (which I am reading) with -

C section, No 1 GHQ Troop, RASC, (BEF)
    Kensington , W8

Does this unit have a war diary?

    Cheers John Melling

    Morning Joe,

Andy (handle 'Drew5233') and Lee (handle 'Pyswar') provide a War Diary copying service and one or the other will likely drop by and confirm matters for you. If not drop one or the other a PM (Personal Message).

Do you have Harry's service records? If not, you should consider applying for them; link: https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records You only need his full name and date of birth...

Any relation to the comedian Jimmy Clitheroe?

    Best,

    Steve.

John, perhaps it's this diary, it's the closest I can find to match your description:

WO 167/1082, 1 General Headquarters (GHQ) Company Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) Listed also as 20 Company, 1939 Sept.-1940 Mar

    Best wishes,

    Lee

John, good idea to get his records first.
If you did want to pursue getting a copy of the war diary, I photograph them for 9p a page.

    Best wishes,

    Lee
