I have written a novel based on the events of May 1940. My father-in-law served in the 2nd battalion Irish Guards and was a member of the Harpoon Force, which was created the day Winston Churchill became Prime Minister. Their first task was to rescue of the Dutch Government from the Hook of Holland and the second resulted in the Battle of Boulogne. The book is titled Harpoon Force and will be published in November 2014. I have tried to remain faithful to the actual events leading up until the end of the battle at Outre and then the novel speculates on what the aim of that mission might have been. The book is with the Editor at the moment. I would be interested in what members think of it when it is published.
Good news article today (29 August 2014) in the Romford Recorder. Unfortunately too large to scan. It refers to the two missions of the Harpoon Force (Irish/Welsh Guards) in May 1940. It is a review of my new book Harpoon Force which will be published on 10 October 2014 but extends beyond this remit. Should go on-line under Romford Recorder over the weekend.
The Harpoon Force was created the night Winston Churchill became Prime Minister in May 1940 and it was then sent on two missions. The first saw the rescue of Queen Wilhelmina from the Netherlands and the second resulted in the Battle of Boulogne. My father-in-law was a member of the Harpoon Force and was captured at Boulogne, spending five years as a prisoner of war. My latest novel HARPOON FORCE is published today and is available on Amazon. It tells this incredible story of courage. This is my seventh published book but it is easily my best. Please read it. It is available as paperback or Kindle.
I swear to god I'm going blind ! I even did a word search thingy for novel and came up with two, one of them in my post.....I'll get my coat ffs.
Harpoon Force is a novel but I have relied faithfully on the factual detail of both missions. I'm sure those interested in the 2nd Battalion's missions to the Hook of Holland and Boulogne in May 1940 will enjoy the book. The fictional aspect of the book simply speculates on what the purpose of the second mission was (as it was never revealed). For this element of the story the characters are fictional. I would appreciate any comments or criticisms from those who choose to read it. I think the book also captures the period too and covers what life was like as a prisoner of war. I hope you enjoy it.
of course we can't comment on the content (i'd like to see what is new on the Hook/Holland story) ...but, why the dull cover ? It represents a cemetery park ? why (not something more intriguing/exciting) ? This does not attract the eye of potential buyers...I 'm afraid. Mind you, it can still sell well, but it depends only on lip-service of the initial reader to the next. :/
Sorry you find the cover dull, but well spotted, it is indeed a cemetery. It is relevant to the story but only becomes so half way through the book. It is less important to me that the book sells well than the people who read it find it interesting. I hope you become one of the latter. Thank you for your interest.
