Geoff's Search Engine launched five years ago today. I'm celebrating tonight by making sloe gin (well vodka, only ever drink gin before boarding a 'plane). Should be ready by Christmas. It is still running and will while there is someone out there to use it. Other 'search engines' are available, please try if you've not already done so.
I have to say "Thanks" as you made the use of the CWGC database so much more versatile that it could actually be used to plot daily losses, similar Service Numbers to see when a draft of men might have reached Theatre and by location, all of which were much more difficult without resorting to asking the CWGC. Whenever I did so they were unfailingly helpful and it became obvious that they were able to interrogate the database better than us "amateurs". You levelled the playing field and reduce the burden of requests to the CWGC. It is not an exaggeration to say that I wouldn't have become so interested in WW1 and WW2 history without GSE (no, NOT GCSE!!! that's something completely different!!) Cheers, and I hope the slow vodka matures in 5 years too!
It is so good they had to copy it themselves. Will they be making sloe gin? Shameful: sloe gin recipe by Andy Hamilton Sloe Gin Even more shameful: Sloe Gin and the Shameful history of Britain - The Other Andy Hamilton But I suspect you are right Owen, previous 'leaked' opinions would be that there would be an outcry if funds were spent on research tools for a few. ps I used Fairtrade sugar
As someone who was amongst the first to use and really appreciate the value of this wonderful search tool I am delighted to say Well done and Many Happy Returns Ron

Hi Bernard Good to see that you have followed my advice and decided to ask your question on the main forum. Unfortunately you have posted the details on a thread entitled "Happy Birthday" where it might not attract much response so I have taken the liberty of moving it to a thread already dealing with your subject and you will find it here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/16006-operation-pluto-2.html#post548266 Just click on the link and use this thread to continue your discussion. With a bit of luck others will now come forward to help you with your very personal enquiry. Best regards Ron
