Hampshire Regiment/ RE's Capt R H Blake MC

    Hello,

    Is there any means to establish an officers unit, I'm interested in following this chaps service and would like to try and find out the story behind his MC

    Soren, that's not a Hampshire Regt chap but he's 560th (Hants) Army Troops Company Royal Engineers.

    He started off in 560th (Hampshire) Army Troop Company Royal Engineers; this was basically a field company used as Army troops.

    One part of it says he was a Brigade Major attached to the Portuguese Expeditionary Force, which is quite interesting.

    Granted rank of Captain Territorial Force Reserve (London Gazette 3rd June 1919) entry reads;-
    Royal Engineers.—Lt. R. H. Blake, M.C.,from the Hants. Fortress Engrs. (Works Cos.) to be Capt. 6th June 1919

    Capt Reginald Herbert Blake MC Royal Geographical Society, London
    honorary member address entry reads;-
    Capt. Reginald H., M.C., R.E. 48, Moorgate-street, E.C.2.

    Ah yes the story I heard was that he was in charge of the Portuguese when they bolted due to a gas attack
