I`d like to ask the forum if anyone has a layout, or perhaps any photo`s even, of Gulunche Camp near Nira, circa WII that they might be willing to share?

My Grandfather was stationed here for quite some time 1943 - 44 and I`m curious as to what the camp was like. There are a few odd photo`s on the net but mainly taken outside the mess.

I`ve seen camp layouts of places like Deolali and Khadakwasla in service publications of this era, which sometimes appear on Ebay, but never any of Gulunche. I also wondered if camp layouts on the Indian continent were kept in official Army documentation somewhere (surely they must have been), and if these might still exisit. Possibly they`re buried inside unit war diaries at Kew but I`ve never seen Gulunche.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    John

I have never seen them in Diaries I have looked through but have seen them in 'guide books' as you say. It does seem that many maps have been weeded out of the War Diaries at Kew at some time. I have come across some maps of the IV Corps HQ near Imphal. But I haven't trawled through the War Diaries for India based units.
