Just discovered that my father was awarded the GSM and Palestine clasp 1936 to 1940. I've sent off (6 months ago) for his and Mums (ATS) Service Records, so still a looooooong wait!!
However, whilst looking for someone elses' records (as one does) I found that he and other RAMC Privates had been awarded the GSM and clasp. Order was signed by CO, Military Hospital, Haifa.
This is the first independent corroboration of his Service and obviously he was "in" before WW2 started. Service Number 7263672.
Does anyone have info about what was happening in Palestine 1936 on, Irgun, Stern Gang, King David Hotel, etc etc? I know Dad said he was in Palestine before WW2 and had seen soldiers strung up and mutilated, but he skipped most else until in Anzio where he suffered ear damage from long range artillery shelling while in caves. He was then returned to UK where he met mum etc into the sunset...
Did whatever was happening in Palestine "stop" when WW2 was declared, perhaps on the basis that "My enemy's enemy is my friend" so the Jewish terrorists (that's what they were called!) ended their campaign against the British? That pre supposes some sort of knowledge about what was happening to the Jewish populations in German dominated States....
Anyone able to throw a bit more light into this little corner?
EDIT: My apologies, now I find that the principal cause was an Arab revolt against Jewish immigration, and not Jewish activists (although they soon joined the band wagon and were just as "troublesome" but mainly post WW2 (King David Hotel bombing was post war).
My apologies if my error upsets anyone. I'm still learning about this topic!

    Hi Kevin,

I am guessing that you got the info online?

    If not, see attached.
