    Hi,

I was speaking to the 94 year old mother of a friend of mine recently. She served in the WAAF as a cook in the officers mess at RAF Marston Moor, North Yorkshire, where Group Captain Cheshire was the Station Commander.

She told me this humourous anecdote about Group Captain Cheshire's pet dog - a Standard (large) Poodle - that was looked after by his servant/batman.

He had taught the dog the following "trick" -

The dog was told told to "sit" and complied.

It was then told to "Stand Up for Hitler" and failed to respond - remaining in the "sit" position.

It was then told to "Stand Up for Mussolini" and once again failed to respond and remained "seated".

The animal was then told to "Stand Up for Group Captain Chehire" and immediately stood up!
