hello Everyone, My name is Patrick and i live here in Ieper where i have a bar and a restaurant, i live here with my Belgian wife and my 5 year old son who is already bi lingual and his birthday is 11/11 , and i need some help as I am doing some research for a friend of mine whose uncle took part in the operation varsity hamilcar landings, he was part of the 53rd Worcester yeomanry and the 211 or 212 battery (originally in the 210 but they merged) I think he was meant to land at LZ 'P' but missed , he was wounded and captured and ended up in stalag x1b. We are hoping to visit next year on the anniversary , any ideas where they actually landed, he might have been with Capt. Thomas (MC). His name is Gunner William James Page . cheers Patrick
Hello Patrick, I've slightly edited the thread title to one that will attract the aitborne types. Do you want to make a shameless plug for your bar ? Lots of us on here have been / go to Ieper rather alot.
Hello....welcome to the forums.........as others have pointed out several airborne enthusiasts on here.....I think there was a regimental history for the Worcs Yeomanry...have to go and look for the title....but someone will probably beat me to it..... Which bar do you have....was in Ieper for the 90th anniversary of the Armisitce.....I may well have been in your bar looknig for my two lost passengers!
Thank you for the welcome, my bar is called Sante and is about 150m from the Grote Markt at Boterstraat 37, i look forward to seeing some of you cheers Patrick
My name is Patrick and i live here in Ieper where i have a bar Somehow... I imagine our own Soren1941 will know you, Indirectly or not. The combination of the words 'bar' and 'Ieper' immediately makes me think of him. Ever thrown out an Anne Widdecombe obsessive?.. Welcome aboard Patrick, good luck with your hunt for information. Cheers, Adam.
Welcome Patrick. Patrick is a great chap, and he and his family good hosts; I have popped into his bar several times when in Ieper. Am sure a few people will be able to help you, mate! Have you opened your restaurant yet?
hello Everyone, My name is Patrick and i live here in Ieper where i have a bar and a restaurant, i live here with my Belgian wife and my 5 year old son who is already bi lingual Your son speaks Algemeen Nederlands and Westvlaams eh ? I'm impressed. There aren't many in West Flanders who can speak proper Dutch Welcome to the forum. If you read back through the threads, you'll see that we're doing our best to introduce a new, better class of tourist to Ypres by making the 1940 connection better known.

They teach proper Nerderlands at school and he knows Iepers already and of course English
I'll second all of the positive comments made on the Forum so far. When my wife and I are in Ypres, Patrick's excellent bar is our local. Great beer, super food and a warm welcome. What more could you want? Unfortunately family committments have prevented us from making our usual trip (or trips!) to Belgium this year, so we haven't had a chance to sample the delights of the new Trattoria. On a WWII note have you got the CD-ROM about Op Varsity that was published in conjunction with the Parachute Regiment museum a few years ago? It has a vast archive of photos, war diaries, orders etc as well as the detailed itinerary for the post-war army battlefield tour of the area. I might be able to get you a copy.
