Greetings all from NZ. A bit about me, 27yo, a History Graduate and have been researching family military history over the years. I had a grandfather serve in Sherman Tanks with the NZ Army in Italy and a Great Uncle serve as a Air Gunner with the RNZAF in the Pacific, so I have strong interests in these areas. Look forward to the forum. Cheers.
Welcome to the forum. Have you been to Italy yet to see where he was? I know you Kiwis are rather good travellers.
Welcome Clint There is a lot of knowledge on this forum. Being from the same side of the world, I am amazed with the help I have received. cheers, Craig
Welcome to the forum Clint -enjoy! We have a couple of veterans - Tom Canning and Ron Goldstein - who served in tanks in Italy. If they don't drop by to say hello on this thread you may wish to drop them a PM - private message - about your grandfather. I am sure they will help you with insights if they can. You will also find lots of threads they have contributed to about tanks in Italy via the 'Search' facility. Best, Steve.
Clint, if you are able I would love to know more about your grandfather and his time in Italy. Sandra
Hi Hello Sandra, was your grandfather ever a POW in Italy? If yes, I just finished reading book also about a famous POW fortress in Gavi. Might be worth visiting this castle anway. Stefan.
Vitellino... the primary combat contribution. Surviving veterans and family members, and especially photos, diagrams, maps, letters, diaries. Mainly about 2nd New Zealand Division, their courage and sacrifices.
Here's the best place to start, if you're not already familiar with it: 2 New Zealand Division | NZETC Vitellino
