    Thanks very much, Geoff. That's interesting. I had this mistaken belief that the CWGC, or at least the predecessor unit, came along once the war had ended, after the smoke had cleared so to speak, but they were obviously very much in the thick of it. Assigned to the unit from varying regiments too, I see. Assigned to the organisation and recording of war graves, some of them sadly became subjects of the task themselves.

    I had a quick look for the unit via your WW1 engine but must have been selecting the wrong primary unit. Thanks - I appreciate that.

    You can find some of them by searching on GRAVES anywhere in the unit text field , however the secondary field is not working at the moment - one of the things I was working on....

    Thanks for those lookups, Geoff. There were certainly more casualties than I expected, particuarly for WW1, but then the unit must have grown in size a fair bit due to the enormity of the task.
