Hi all, I hope you are well. While looking through my Grandfathers things I came a cross the following WW2 record. I am wondering if anyone could help with the information contained in them? I know he was in the Fleet Air Arm at Condor in Arbroath but was wondering if the other places named were ships or bases? He also never claimed his medals after WW2 and I was wondering what he would have been entitled to. any help would be appreciated. Stuart Jack
Hello, Put "HMS" before the names of ships ie. HMS Gosling / RAF Croft – aircrashsites.co.uk RNAS Lee-on-Solent (HMS Daedalus) - Wikipedia RM Condor - Wikipedia RAF Worthy Down - Wikipedia HMS Daedalus - Wikipedia RNAS Rattray - Wikipedia HMS Sultan (shore establishment) - Wikipedia Regards, Dave
Hi, Good to see a copy of Naval Discharge papers. It will make your search for information a lot easier. Forum member Hugh MacLean may be able to tell you more - especially if you need to apply for victualling records. Steve
To add to the above info. You are very lucky to have this Service Record as it was handed to the Rating on discharge and no copy was kept by the RN. So many have since been mislaid/lost/destroyed. HMS Gosling - initial training gosling you may even find your grandfather in one of the course photos. Daedalus (Hednesford) means his records were being held at HMS Daedalus but he was at RAF Hednesford. No.6 School of Technical Training RAF Hednesford - Wikipedia Merganser - RNAS near Crimond, Aberdeenshire Siskin - RNAS Gosport Tim Edit. You can contact the Medal Office who will be able to tell you which medals your grandfather was entitled to. If, as you say, they have not been claimed then NOK can apply for them. Hi all, Thank you for the very kind response which helps to build a picture of my Grand Father during the war years. I do not know why he never applied for his medals, possibly because he never served overseas by the looks of it but he did still have 3 years service which we as a family are very proud of. It is great to hear that the Service record is something that we are lucky to have. It is still in pretty good condition considering it is nearly 80 years old. We will be applying for the medals and thanks to Tim for providing the link. Where would I find the archive pictures for course photos at Gosling? I really appreciate the time people have taken to respond here. Stuart
