    Hi everyone,

My Grandfather served in the Pioneer Corp during the war and I have his details from my mother's birth cerificate:
    Joseph Homer Pte.1948506 (Pioneer Corps)

I was able to obtain some information from the Royal Pioneer Corps Forum:

'I have a little information on your grandfather. He joined the Pioneer Corps from RE on 26 Jun 41
I do not have any more information until he joined 81 Prisoner of War Company on 18 Sep 47 (they were located at Pingley Farm, Brigg, Lindsey,Lincs). He was released from the army on 31 Mar 48'.

I'm unable to obtain his service records because he left his wife and children for a Belgium women after being demobbed and was never seen by his family. I assume he'd met her while serving overseas but without a copy of his death certificate they will not release his service records. I have no idea where or when he died to obtain this so I'm in catch 22.

I know this is a long, long shot but can anyone help add anymore information:unsure:

    Kind regards
    Adrian

Its a longshot but try the units that were out in Belgium during the 1944/1945 time frame these may give you further infomation. It may also be worth trying the Pioneer Corps (museum) to see if they hold any information or nominal roles.
Also look at the date on the birth certificate to see if he was over in Belgium in 1939/1940

    Hi,

Many thanks for your help and I've emailed the Pioneer Corps (museum) for advice. According to the Pioneer Forum My Grandfather enlisted first in the Royal Engineers on the 31 Mar 41 and was transferred to the Pioneer Corps on 26 Jun 41.

I have a photo taken on his wedding day in 1930 and he is in Army uniform. I think his lapel badges were of antelopes-maybe the Royal Warwickshire Regiment ?

I did enquire from the Pioneer forum about what Coy's were stationed in Belgium 1944/1945 but was told far too many to be able to identify his.

Let's see what I get back from my email.

    Many thanks
    Adrian
