    Another question if I may?

Grandad's records show that he was admitted on a couple of occasions to the 8 (BR) Field Ambulance. Would it be correct to assume that this is referring to 8th Infantry Brigade, of which the 2nd Batt East Yorks formed part?

The 8th Fld Amb where attached to the 3rd Inf Division, not specifcally 8th Brigade

Hi Phil thanks for that, it all puts flesh on the bones and makes it easier to understand, so my thanks for that. Would they have their own War Diary do you think?

Subsequently, on the 12/06/1945 he was admitted to 108 (BR) General Hospital X2 list, do you know anything about them at all?

    Thanks

    While we're on about hospitals...

I have my Grandad's Army Pay Book and that has a page that refers to medical classifications. There is an entry dated 09/03/45 where he is graded at C1 and it looks to be at Medical Board 32 G.H. - I'm presuming that this will be the 32 General Hospital?

I've looked at Sue Light's webpage as mentioned by Phil and they (32GH) weren't far from Brussels at that time which would tie in with his other hospital admission.

The next entry is dated 17/09/35 which I'm assuming must be a clerical error and should read 45 and that refers to RMO or RHO I'm not sure which when he's upped to a B1. Any ideas on what this might be?

I appreciate your help in helping to decipher his records, as some of the military abbreviations are a complete mystery to me. For instance, 'granted WTPP leave', any idea what WTPP is?!

If I can come in on this, which Pic/Thread No. are you referring to ?

Just a word.If it all sounds confusing? Then that isn't surprising the troops were moved where ever they wanted, then certainly outside of ones own brigade and indeed your division

Following on your explanation I had no problem finding the acronym WTPP but am immediately baffled by it.

Have to admit I was never was granted a WTPP in the whole of my Army career and feel a bit miffed about it :)

Had it been WTP I might have guessed at Weekend Travel Pass but WTPP escapes me.

I've done the obvious trawl of the internet, GOOGLING for Army Acronyms but to no avail.

Come on lads (and lasses), don't like to admit defeat to a genuine enquiry,.

    Someone must know !

    Hi Jules

I believe the 70th was a young soldiers Battalion.

As an aside he was granted the WTPP leave on the 12th December 1940. As part of my wider research and interest in WW2 I've just picked up a copy of this book: Sheffield's Date with Hitler: The Story of the Blitz: Amazon.co.uk: Neil Anderson: Books
which shows that Sheffield was bombed twice, on the 12th and the 15th December 1940. I don't know if he had headed home to Sheffield on the 12th, but by all accounts he had a lucky escape if he did!
