    Hi all .
Could anybody tell me if my Grandads medals have already been claimed, there is a date stamp stating 1988 on his records, would that be the date they where claimed if they have been and would next of kin still be able to apply.
    Thanks.

That it’s dated and stamped by the Medal Office implies they may have already been claimed, but I’m not expert enough to swear to that. There are more knowledgeable folks than me here.

To be really sure, you can contact the Medal Office yourself via email and ask that. They’re usually pretty quick to respond.

You can write the old fashioned way too:

    Innsworth House
    Imjin Barracks
    Gloucester

Telephone enquiries are handled by the Joint Personnel Administration Centre (JPAC).

You could always purchase replica medals, such as to mount in a frame.

Looking at the stamp, Yes they were issued in 1988 . If you are asking if you as NoK can apply for another set then NO . Excellent suggestion by ritsonvaljos . There`s no date or address on the medal card though so you may have to double check it also states the application was made by NoK at the time ?

Thanks for the information, it was my Grandmother who applied for the medals before she passed away, we often asked where the medals were and she could never recall seeing them we thought she had accidentally threw them away or misplaced as she suffered with dementia. But now it looks like she may of never received them in the 1st place due to no Address on the application. If the medals wasn't sent out due to no Address is it a possibility (his daughter) nok could reapply for them. Thanks

You could certainly ask ? Send them the card with no issue date or address to back up the claim? They can only say yes or no

    Good luck Leigh.

By the way, if you don’t have any luck, and you want to get the medals for, say, a display, then, as you may well already know, getting genuine original examples of the four medals your Grandad was entitled to is very simple and inexpensive. You can find them all over eBay and online medal dealers.

Here, for example, you can see listed all four of the medals very reasonably priced and from a very reputable dealer (I have no connection with the business I hasten to add, but Andrew is a lovely and very helpful chap):

Leigh has this thread too with more pages of the record, Frank:

Grandads Royal Artillery service record help

Looks like he was posted to 90th Field Regiment in September ‘43, which, I guess, would explain the Italy Star. Quite a lot of info to read through on the record!
