As a new member of the forum I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I have been reading lots of the tips/advice/'don't do's'...and hopefully will post any threads in the right area. I have joined the forum following the birth of my grandson, on November 11th 2019. Due to his birth date my son wished to name him after his own (maternal) great grandfather who fought in WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. And so is beginning a journey of research. I am now off to the Royal Marines forum (he was member of MNBDO 1) to hopefully continue my research (that I can pass on to my grandson in due time). Thank you for creating this forum that allows many to gain a small insight into this conflict and the experiences of your members.
Hi Ianb Welcome to the forum That sounds like an interesting and worthwhile research project. The DCM should be available to download from the National Archives (£3.50) and of course obtaining his service records will be the most important step in following your relatives service Be interested to read more as the project moves forward TD
Welcome and good luck with your project - you should find it rewarding and something that your grandson will find interesting in due course. Just to add to Tricky Dicky's post above: Get a copy of military service records
Welcome Ian and hearty congratulations on the arrival of your grandson. Our beautiful granddaughter arrived with a bang on the 5th!
Glad to toast a drink to you and yours on your new arrival. Her birthday will always go with a bang !!
