If so give the chaps at 'The Tent Team' a consider: The Tent Team: Quality Tents & Camping Equipment I can't praise them enough, after exchanging numerous emails seeking advice and the odd stupid question etc they kept their patience with me and answer all my questions with a easy to understand answer. On top of that I finally placed an order today for a tent and a extension and they gave me a 5% discount on top of a already heavily discounted product that they didn't need to do, saving me an extra £20+ . Oh and I ordered it today and it's being delivered tomorrow free of charge. I can't praise them enough - Well Done 'The Tent Team'.
My Stepson, five kids under 10 yoa and his newest lady friend are at present under canvas in Cornwall. The lady is missing the en-suite bathroom, the stepson is fed up with the heavy rain and the kids consume money like a Member of Parliament. I reckon on an early return home. I wish you much better luck Drew5233.
I have a key ingredient missing from your stepson's scenario...I don't have children Do you want mine they are driving me NUTS!
Camping & AndyBaldeagle just do NOT go, thats why they invented hotels etc....I camped some years ago in Oosterbeek and it rained for 5 days without a break, only time the sun came out was when we packed up to leave! It must be me, but have a good time, and eating kids is I think illegal anyway! lol,,,,,,,,, however sounds like you got yourself a little bargain! Andy
Andy, You sound like my wife. She won't be joining us next weekend for our canoe trip in Algonquin Park either. Sleeping on the ground, carrying gear over a portage and the absence of electricity make her a little queasy. Algonquin is a wilderness provincial park in central Ontario, about the 3 times the area of Luxembourg.
I hated camping, but had it forced on me by years of reenacting - nice locations, castles etc. and generally being pissed all the time helped. The one time I agreed to a week of 'leisure' camping on an organised site I stropped after 5 days, and insisted on luxuries like glass windows and running water from then on... and not seeing freaks hoovering outside their caravans at 7AM (I kid you not). However... was recently persuaded to do a couple of days in Derbyshire and almost sort of liked it. No horrible 'facilities' or 'entertainment', farmers field, river, Dovedale walking distance, basic, nice. Only one brand of tent for me though - Khyam. Bought our shed-sized one 10 years ago and it's still going strong. Takes minutes to put up, rock solid, mahoosive. If it ever dies, it will be replaced by another. Tents you can't stand up in equal misery.
I'm going camping in Normandy next year with my Brother. He is a seasoned camper and has got all the pukka gear. We are gonna follow in the footsteps of my Dad's unit and Im plotting all the place names his Battery went to. First stop the Radar station at Douvres. 336 Battery were deployed there immediately following it's capture. I have a nice piece of film footage from the IWM showing what a pasting the place got.
Andy Get down to GO OUTDOORS at Pudsey, and get yorself the electric hook up kit, then get a double ring cooker and do not forget a light. My wife and I have camped for years, always take the dog with us and we have used electric hook ups with no problem, though you may need a converter for european sites. Do not skimp on the sleeping bags either get decent 3 seasons if you can and either a camp bed each or an inflatable mattress.

We got all that mate including a 3 layer inflatable mattress My Ex Army budies would turn kill me if they knew the luxuries we have....Andrea even purchased a kitchen sink this year-I shit you not !
You ain't even half way there without a six foot Oak table and a weeks worth of Ice. A portable fire-pit is handy too.
First year since 2003 that we didn't go camping for our summer holiday. In a way I missed it but then the thought of our own bathroom with superb shower in the gite soon made me think I don't miss campsite toilet blocks. Especially the French ones with squat-toilets. I camped in the Algonquin Park back in 1992. Lovely place.
LOL taking the 'ers-indoors and her daughter to their first bike rally this weekend....two 2-man tents (no standing up), three sleepingbags, a hexamine stove, a tinopener and two mess tins - and a wooden spoon. They want fripperies, they bring their own!

Millets do some pretty good deals on sleeping bags too.. As above, don't skimp on them. Northumberland is great for camping, me & the missus try go a couple of times a yr. Tony
I love camping, but I don't do any of that luxury stuff. I prefer to 'rough it' with my little tent that leaks when it pisses down. lol. There used to be loads of places locally that we used to be able to camp but all the chavs from nearby estates have ruined it with their piles of leftover rubbish and drug paraphernalia. One of my favourite times was when we heaved a generator, drum kit, guitars and amps over a quarter mile of uneven ground to set up our own little 'Glastonboro' up at cod beck. You could hear my Guitar echoing out over the night valley. Quality!!!
