    HI Medic,

Very true but would you believe I know of a GP that is buried over here and doesn't have a thing No headstone the only way we found his burial place is because of His Mother... Stocking really when you think and because of family wishes thats how he will stay....

    Cheers
    Tom
PS Yes he was at Arnhem

    TomTas,
How did he slip through the CWGC net? I wasn't aware family wishes came into it, (thought it was a CWGC service-wide policy). Also if that is the case how did you get to know of this GP?

    Regards,
    Mike L

Philip. Re. Des Turner. That's strange because I was led to believe by Des Turner's widow that the other man in the photo was his best mate, 'Tommy' Thomson. Obviously further research has disproved this!
I look forward to seeing the book, hopefully before my Arnhem trip!

    Hi Mike,

Family were given the option of CWGC headstone or Family one.. His family must have gone for the family one and it didn't work out or something happened... Mike he's in the ROH for Arnhem...

    Cheers

Welcome Luuk.....will you be signing copies of the book in Oosterbeek/Arnhem next week????

If so please provide location/time etc
    Hi Niall,

No, there is not (yet) a time or place where we will be signing copies. However there will be some time after the service on Sunday. Now we need to find a place... ;) Any suggestions?

    Hi Medic,

Indeed the Glider Pilot Regiment had many casualties. 228 were KIA or DOW. 46 of these still have an unknown grave. Another 466 Glider Pilots were taken POW. So at Arnhem the Regiment lost almost half its strength...

But of ocurse they were the second highest group regimentally wise....about 1200 GPs went only the Parachute Regiment had more men there....so the next question is how many PR men were killed, wounded and captured? For a percentage comparison......probably not very scientific but 2nd Btn out of about 480 ish who went was it 17 who returned?

As the Museum will be closed how about a stall on the path up to the entrance of the Hartenstein.....it'll give the people who turn up something and can't get it something to do.......unless you are going to the opening????

I am not suggesting the GPR had the highest casualty rate... I am just adding the numbers. However, if you want to compare units and casualties it's my opinion one should look at Brigade level to get a fair comparison. So, how many in a PR Bde? About 2,000? And approx 2,500 in an A/L Bde?

I was more thinking in the line of Schoonoord... Having a drink during the process wouldn't hurt:D No, I am not one of the happy few that are invited to the grand openingB)

I thought I read somewhere that only veterans and invited persons are welcome at the opening.

Schoonoord ans surroundings will as usual be the focus of the "afterparty".

The Schoonoord would be a good idea or outside it!
But just thinking aloud...normally there might be about 400 people in the Museum at any one time on the Sunday....so they will now be out on the streets so to speak......

And those seats are outside as well. Let's pray for nice weather, which it usually is.

    Back to the book....

My copy arrived a couple of days ago. Very impressed with it and it's good to read new personal accounts. Mike and Luuk have done the Regiment proud.
