I am very keen to get hold of a copy before my Arnhem battlefield tour in October. Does the photograph of Lt. Des Turner and 'Tommy' Thomson outside a house in Oosterbeek, which I sent to Mike Peters, appear in the book? I am hoping to do a 'then and now' recreation of it, as I did in 2003, assuming I can remember where the house is!
It holds a photograph of Lt Des Turner and his co-pilot S/Sgt Walford in front of a house at the Hartensteinlaan you are mention in the book
Phil, Sorry to ask but is there any mention of Lt. Michael Long in the new boob - or in fact any other book you have? Paul, same question! Regards, Mike

If you send me a pm with your email, I will pass it on to Luuk Buist, whom no doubt must have some info on him.

Phil, Sorry to ask but is there any mention of Lt. Michael Long in the new boob - or in fact any other book you have? Paul, same question! Regards, Mike Hi Mike, Philip has sent me an email regarding your question. Below please find the answer. Yes, there is a reference to Lt. Michael Long. First his name is mentioned in the name list on page 340 as: Long M.W. Lieut. 245325, F/16, POW O9A/H. Also on page 230 with the following passage: Staff Sergeant George Davis was with āFā Squadron in a defensive position alongside āEā Squadron: We were dug-in in gardens behind a street of houses. Michel Long took every other man from this line to go on a patrol. Jim Wells on my left and my second pilot Alec Williams on my right were included. Shortly after this my position came under heavy bombardment. I felt extremely lucky not to be injured and when the firing ceased I hoped to be able to get back in the cover of the nearby trees and try to rejoin my Flight. Unfortunately the enemy troops had decided to use the house, in whose garden I had my slit trench, as their temporary headquarters. I was discovered and made prisoner of war before I could make my escape. I can add that Lieutenant Long flew to Arnhem as the co-pilot of Staff Sergeant Jim Wells. They flew in the Border Regiment on the 1st lift. Their chalknumber is unknown. With kind regards, Luuk Buist
Welcome Luuk.....will you be signing copies of the book in Oosterbeek/Arnhem next week???? If so please provide location/time etc
Phil, Luuk, Paul, Tom, Many thanks for the information, it all ties in rather neatly with Long's account in A Bridge Too Far. Super fast responses. I will advise if I find any further info re Olag IX A/H. Best Regards, Mike (Michael William Long)
