They probably shouldn't be advertising that they have one then!!!!

Sorry to get your hopes up like that :-(

A day or so ago I emailed a chap in a America who is selling a copy of The Distinguished Flying Cross for £250.

I asked him if he could email me a few pictures of both volumes so I could see the condition of both books inside and out.

This was the reply I got earlier today:

Hi, very sorry scanner is not working, apologies
    Bob

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole or continue negotiations?

Thats what I originaly asked him for pictures not scans and at that price I wouldn't want him to scan the book.

I would ask again, if he's desparate to sell he'll soon find a scanner/camera. If he doesn't come up with some photos, I would leave well alone.

    Hi Les,

Cheers, but that site appears to just list where they are held by libaries etc. I want to buy the books rather than borrow them.

    Thanks again
    Andy

Just wondering how desperate you are, coz if you did an inter-library loan & renewed it for as long as they let you, well maybe you could scan everything you need?

Kate mentioned that the other night. I want the book for ref purposes and my collection. The problem with scanning it, it is 2 volumes and contains 22,000 citations.

    The search continues

ps You're up early...You working too?

I've already ticked him of the list as a possible. Sounds like an idiot to me.

Just to keep you all up to date in this continuing mini-series of a saga - I have just ordered a copy of the Distinguished Flying Cross from Waterstones. I suspect they don't have a copy though and just assume they can get a copy from the publishers.

    Nothing ventured nothing gained though...

    Andy.

Turner Donovan have 'For Bravery in the Field...' in their current catalogue.

They're asking 60 quid for it though! (Not worth that in my opinion... its only a list of LG dates when it all comes down to it)

    Cheers Dave.
I was wondering if I was bothered with this book now I can get all the WW2 MM's for free online at Kew.

Just amended first post as I've just purchased a copy of The Distinguished Flying Cross and How It Was Won and I've taken the Military Medal book off my wants list as all the info is now available for free online at the National Archives.

Still after a copy of Honour, The Air Forces by Michael Maton though.

Cheers for all the help/pointers. Its always appreciated.

Having emailed and telephoned Savannagh Publishing several times in 2009 and 2010 to be told they would not be running a 2nd Edition I decided to buy a second hand copy of both volumnes for £250

Today I got this email from them:
DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS AND HOW IT WAS WON 1918-1995 by N. and C. Carter
    2 Volumes. Casebound, c.2000pp. £150

Over the last year and more we have received requests for this title.
Unfortunately we have had to disappoint clients with the information that
these 2 volumes were out of print. However, as a result of a recent
stock-take by warehouse staff, a small number of copies have come to light
and we are able to make these available of a first come first served basis.

Although this is now a scarce title (both new and second-hand), we are
maintaining the price at which the work published, which is £150 (plus £8
    p&p UK)

On a plus side I didn't pay postage for my copies

And there I was going to suggest Eric T. Moore Books, from whom I obtained a book before Christmas, and they do a free book search.
