This forum is here to discuss WW2.
We're here to Remember the fallen , help members with research.
Chat about tanks , planes, uniforms, you know what I mean.
Now and again we have a chat about models or utter rubbish we've found on the internet.

What we are not here for is to discuss modern politics or Religion .

Sometimes it's best to keep certain thoughts to ourselves.

    Is that clear enough ?

Thanks for posting this. A lot of the material on this site has been irrelevant to WW2 research or interest. Personally, I would further suggest that this must surely be down to the moderators who are allowing the trend to develop? (I can see a red mark or two coming this way for such a comment).

There are occasions where it can be relevant to compare / contrast / include periods or views other than WW2 on a WW2 forum (e.g. setting the background or the aftermath, remembrance events, etc). However, the writer introducing the contrast should at least attempt to make it clear the relevance of the issues to a WW2 Forum they are raising.

As a moderator if it was up to me alone I'd ban all OT discussions and delete Barracks.

But as a group of Mods we try to get things right, discuss a lot behind the scenes, but we can't always get it right and remember we aren't paid employees of this site and all have families and jobs.

We try to get members to do the right thing rather than hit everyone with a stick, but sadly recently some have pushed that to the limits and in future I suspect we won't be quite so tolerant of certain OT subjects.

I agree but sometimes a bit of 'light' chat helps members bond somewhat .
I'd love to see Smudger Jnr's garden railway in Berlin for instance.

I think there is a place for off -topic but there is a limit to what is 'off -topic'.

    Clear as glass.

You moderators do a GREAT job and have made this the best WWII site on the net. I'm grateful for all the work you do. Perfect balance of light stuff and more serious topics.

    This WWII-ish enough? :)

I took them at West Point yesterday.

Dare one say contributions / comments should be civil, tasteful and relevant in a dialogue that is friendly and mature? One could make the case that off-topic contributions are anti-social and they to nowhere but "the rainbow's end".

I think Owen has made the relevant point in a firm but friendly manner.

    Agreed!

As I said to Adam recently, I was dead wrong and obviously naive in assuming that there could be civil discourse and respectful debate on a variety of subjects. Idealism dies hard but human nature and individual agendas always hold sway.

I defer to your wisdom and experience.

    Owen,
Then it should be standard form not to slag a Veteran. And, that Vet does not necessarily have to be ww2 veteran.

If anyone posts something on the forum they should be prepared for another member to disagree with said viewpoint.
Whether they be a Veteran of any kind or not.

It should be standard form not to slag any member of the forum, not just Vets.

    Gerard,
Wise words. And may they become the standard when disagreements arise.

A public ''Thank You'' to those members who have PMed me to show their support on this matter.
It's always good to get feedback about about the running of the forum.
