I'm John Riccabone, history teacher. I am conducting research about the presence of German troops in the province of Turin and Aosta. In particular I would like to know if anyone could share with me documents about the presence of German troops in Canavese (Rivarolo, Ivrea, Lanzo) With best regards
Hello John, You need to visit the Deutches Istitut Roma website which has all the information you need: Aosta (first of several pages) DHI Rom Canavese DHI Rom Lanzo DHI Rom DHI Rom Ivrea DHI Rom Rivarolo DHI Rom Best wishes from Umbria, Vitellino
Thank you; However, I know the database you're talking about. Unfortunately, in the database there is little information useful to my research. I could use the work of george Tessin on German troops but I can not find it.
George Tessin's work runs to multiple volumes (16 I think with Vol 16 split into 3 separate volumes) so you need to know what volume(s) you are looking for. As mentioned in the other post the Lexikon website is based on Tessin.
Abebooks has a large number of references to volumes for sale, for example: VERBANDE UND TRUPPEN DER DEUTSCHEN WEHRMACHT UND WAFFEN SS IM ZWEITEN WELTKRIEG: BAND 16 TEIL 1 by Georg Tessin: Biblio Verlag GmbH. & Co. 9783764817459 - The Military History Bookshop
Go to Armeegruppe Ligurien and scroll down to see the subordinate units. Click on the relevant unit and see what it says for that unit (if it is a division). If it is an Armeekorps, click on that and see what units that has and click on them. For example, 5.Gebirgs-Division has this as the final line in it's narrative... Die Division kapitulierte Anfang Mai 1945 bei Fiferoni im Raum Turin, in Italien, vor den Amerikanern
Hello John, Are you trying to find out which troops were involved in the massacres in the areas you have indicated? I have compiled a list from the DHI Rome website for Ivrea, Lanzo, Canavese and Rivarolo but you say you already have that information. However, I have attached it to this post just in case. Regards, Vitellino
