Found this interesting "article". It says there is a book about him, has anyone read it? Thanks, Michael "Beast of Omaha Beach" who's heard of this dude? - Armchair General and HistoryNet >> The Best Forums in History
Interesting thread Panzerschreck! He was one very lucky man, most of his comrades were killed even whilst trying to surrender.
He was one very lucky man, most of his comrades were killed even whilst trying to surrender. Yes he certainly was!

I'd heard of him before but never actually read anything in detail about him. Thanx for the heads up and link.
If he was american or british there would be a statue of him right there on Omaha beach.Imagen the sign: "The guy that killed 2000 nazis, salute him", but he is german, and killing 2000 americans isn't a good thing.
Considering that there were only about 3000 US casualties total on the mile long Omaha beach, I have strong reservations that he accomplished what is claimed. Here is a link to WW2F discussing this Beast of Omaha - World War II Forums
Cheers for the link jeff. Reading throught that I too have reservations as to wether he accomplished what he claimed. I think the last post by T.A gardner sums it up: ,"I looked WN 62 up. It is on the Coleville draw on Omaha. Two companies came ashore more or less in front of this position with the first wave. In addition, portions of two engineering companies also came in at this position. Total casualties, killed, wounded, missing between the four units came to less than 400 men. There were less than 100 deaths in the four. This accounts for everything on Ohama beach for over 500 yards in either direction from WN 62. I doubt given the weather, smoke, and other reductions in visibility that he was able to see 500 yards in either direction. The casualties in this sector are not particularly high for Ohama on D-day either. They fit about average overall".
If he was british or american, would you believe that he accomplished what he claim. He fired 12 000 rounds...
