interesting reading, thanks for posting! Bit of a bone question, but does anyone have an orbat for a typical German infantry battalion for the invasion of Belgium/ France? it'll help me with this after action report I'm translating. thanks.
Yes - I think I may have posted it on a previous thread when I went through all the I Corps files. Have a search and if you can't find it let me know, I skipped past some stuff yesterday in the 1 Div General Staff file. A
In the meantime: Geman Infantry Battalion 1939-42. The divisional organisation page also summarises the regimental structure. It would be interesting to see a total of MGs within the battalion and see how it compares to ours.
I think this is what I was thinking of: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/27595-reorganization-german-formations-1940-a.html I'll cross ref it with what was in the 1 Div file as I think its more detailed than what was taken from the I Corps file.
thanks for that. Most useful. The patrol report I have describes the use of scout sections. Would these just be a standard rifle section, or was there a specialised platoon, (like we had a patrols platoon in our rifle company?)
