Very nice, barathea wool, looks like. And the first private purchase tailor made example I have seen. Sadly it is as I mentioned part of a large lot all to the same officer as otherwise I might have tried to buy it, but the lot is beyond my budget. Good to see the seller is not willing to split it as I always think it is best if such groups can stay together IMHO. It contains two SD tunics, a BD and a KD tunic, his Coloured FS cap and lots more, trousers, balaclava, etc... lots of framed photographs and the two named trunks it was found in.
Straight from Army Council Instructions: 25.09.43. ACI 1407: Instructed that the Cap, GS was a khaki cloth cap of beret shape and as supplies become available they would be issued in replacement of the Cap, FS to complete formations. Issues were to be made in the following priority: all troops abroad; Field Force units at home; AA formations, and then other static troops. The Cap, GS, which was issued to officers through the RAOC on repayment, was not to be taken into use until it was issued to the unit as a whole. It was then be the only regulation headdress to be worn on duty by the officers. It should not be confused with the khaki beret. 24.11.43. ACI 1724: Amendment to ACI 1407 of 1943 extended wear to include OCTU cadets. 30.08.44. ACI 1168: Issue of Cap, GS extended w.e.f. 01.10.44. to include Field Force units at home; OCTU; AA formations; other static units. 28.06.47. ACI 541: Authorised the replacement for the Army, of Cap GS, by a khaki beret. Stephen.
Just noticed that in my posting #3 one of my images is missing, the 1944 one. (That was part of the price the site paid for switching to Invision) When I return to my PC, I shall find the missing photo and re-install it Ron PS PREVIOUS POSTING NOW FIXED WITH BOTH IMAGES
