11am this morning saw the annual commemoration of the ending of WW2 in Europe, held at the French Memorial at Tegel. Both standards were on parade and I placed a wreath at the Memorial from the Branch. A good turn out and a French School from Tegel supplied numerous students who sang both the French and German National Anthems. Sunny and hot conditions for the commemoration, much to everyone's pleasure. You going to the Russian one tomorrow? I went a couple of years ago and was staggered to see how many Russians and Poles turned up in WW2 uniform - plus the stands promoting dodgy fringe politics... Do you get an invite to lay a wreath?
The Branch receives invitations to Lay wreaths at numerous venues over the year. The Russian Memorial day is 9th May in Russia but in Berlin the Russian Remembrance Service is around the same time as the French, plus the Branch has never received an invitation. Hard to attend two venues miles apart given the timings. Regards Tom
