Hi, I’m an IT dummy and have a 2012 laptop that is still running on Windows 7 as a back up to my iPad. Microsoft automatically - without any request - tried to update it with free Windows 10 when it was first launched in 2015 and it crashed my PC. I had it fixed and avoided Windows 10. I was interested when I spotted this online article today as Microsoft have just withdrawn technical support from Windows 7 - I’m still on Windows 7 – what should I do? I followed the imbedded link to the article that describes the process for installing Windows 10 for free - Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade | ZDNet I’ve followed the process and updated my PC to Windows 10 - saving £119 on the identical paid for version. May be of interest to other members who are still using Windows 7. Steve
My Windows 8 laptop crashed after I updated to Windows 10'and after numerous phone calls had to pay for it to be returned to original state. This was when Windows 10 first came out. I was told my make and model could not operate W10. So, if you want to update be very careful and check with producer.
