Bit of a long shot this one - As a side issue to researching my Dad's war time experiences I have been trying to find info about someone my dad mentioned frequently to my mum and he noted his name on some papers. He was a Major Bower. With the aid of the War Diaries (thanks Andy!) I think/hope I have found him. He was the Lieutenant Quartermaster with 366 brigade, 140th Field Reg with the BEF. I have not been able to trace him further using the War Diaries but via Ancestry I have his WW1 Medal Card and his Military Cross mention in the London Gazette from 1919. His name was Frank George Bower M.C. But I have found no mention of a Service No anywhere. I have found an entry in a telephone directory for him in 1941 and he was then a Captain. I am so curious to find out if/when this man Did became a Major and to see whether my dad would have crossed paths with him again at some stage. I would then know for sure that I have the right man! I have still got a lot of the North Africa and Italy War Diaries to go through and may just find him somewhere there but it would be fantastic if anyone knew anything about this man. I bought the book The Grand Party which has a photo of Frank Bower and his dog that went to France with him.

    Thanks for reading.

I have since found out a bit more about this man. He was in the Territorial Army R.A.O.C. after Dunkirk as War Subs. Capt. O.E.O 2nd Class. He relinquished his commision on account of ill health 18 July 1943 and granted the honorary rank of Captain. His number was then 91533. I have no idea where he would have been serving with the R.A.O.C.

I would still like to find out more about this man as I remain convinced he is the man my dad mentioned even though he was never a Major.

Please note his surname is Bower not Bowers as originally stated!

    Thanks for reading.
