I'd just like to give a very big public thank-you to Dave for doing this. A really generous, and much appreciated, thing to do.

    Cheers

    Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for the photos. This was just a herculean effort! When did you sleep eat and...................................!

So many of the members now have some of their requirements.

This leaves me now with only four requirements in France in four cemeteries with one already promised.

A kind gentleman who lives in the area sent me the photos of all my requirements from Choloy just last Saturday.

This has been a huge week for my project.

    Cheers

A HUGE thank you from me as well, has put a dent into my France 'wants'.

Thanks also for including the three headstones of the three Frenchmen killed on the same day as Private Sylvestre of the Canadian Parachute Battalion. He was fighting with the Resistance/Maquis when captured by the Germans and was executed along with them.
I do also have the War Crimes file regarding his execution etc which I must re-read

    Thanks once again

    Andy

Cheers all - for the most part, this gave me something to do while my daughters spent time at Disneyland.

For the first 3 days I covered over 3000km and got to see lots of the French countryside and small villages etc. The first day saw me finish up on the beaches of Arromanches, very satisfying especially after having already visited Bayeaux.

I was helped by the fact that daylight lasted until the better part of 10pm - except where local authorities locked the cemetery gates at 6pm

Despite being unshaven and out of uniform I still threw up a salute at each cemetery - it seemed the right thing to do.

    Hi Dave,

I found it hard to leave the cemeteries (Arrive, take the photos and leave) as I thought about them, their families etc and in most cases how well the French had honoured them continually for all those years.

    Cheers

    Geoff
