    Hi Dave,

Did I send you the France XL spreadsheet? Been that busy lately!

    Cheers

Probably couldn't hurt to send it again, in fact is the world list up to date? - apparently there are some globe trotters at my new unit.

With your ongoing thread have you updated it with the WA images from the other week? Or are you holding out for better quality as I think they were a bit small (low-res)?

    Hi Dave,

Will have a look at world just to double check. The one from Kalgoorlie was 74k however good light and the headstone was easy to read. The others were 700kb+ and 1.1MB so no issue there.

I have to add the ones from Sydney a couple of weeks ago.

    Issues with two there:
King-Patrick, James Gordon (12142) is definitely not at Eastern Suburbs Crematorium at Botany - Lady was most helpful trying many name combinations to no avail.

Parlet, Edward Patrick (20776) was "nearly" found however the plot contained his mother and father (Patrick Parlet). Not until I moved some weeds at the bottom did I notice he was 77 years old.

Have sent emails to OAWG's to see if they can sort it out.

    Cheers

    Geoff

Did you try his other surname? His funeral notice states he was being cremated at ES so he should be on a cremation memorial.

    Hi Dave,

While I would like the ones at Choloy and Nancy it is just on 400kms from Paris and would take a huge lump out of your available time. I have listed them on Find-a-grave so you never know.

Just to give you an idea what my requirements were when I went there in 2011, I have attached the plotted map that I worked on. So compared to your map plot of mine now, the distances between cemeteries is vast.

    No overlap now indeed!

Struth Spidge - pretty selfish of you to try to stop me from being a Nancy boy...... (Gratuitous Allo, Allo reference)

The reality is that I haven't really planned too much as yet, but my older daughter wants to drive on an Autobahn. I'm thinking we can cross over near Strassbourg and head towards Karlsruhe and maybe even one of the nearby larger cities. At least we can say we went to Germany.

Just over a month to go and our plans will hopefully start to firm up in that time.

    cheers

I don't want to hiss on your chips and I hope you achieve and enjoy all on your itinerary. I plan to visit Choloy and Nancy in late September but if you do get there all the better.

Geoff can have a choice of photos !

    Bon Voyage

    Dave,

A direct source of French maps is the French equivalent of the British Ordnance Survey,ie the Institute Geographique National...IGN

    Their website is http://www.ign.fr/

From their website,a wide range of maps of varying scales can be ordered by post from their current catalogue..... should be ideal for planning your itinerary while downunder.

Thanks everyone for their tips etc. I now have a TomTom GPS with Western Europe loaded and the CWGC add-on.

I hope to cover most of the requirements to the west of Paris for Spidge and Andy & the one location close to Paris for Temptage. I will see how far east I get (Nancy, Choloy etc), depending on how much travelling we decide to do.

So far Temptage is on a promise to do a chunk of places north of Paris (for himself & Andy?) and Peter looks like covering Nancy, Choloy etc.

No love as yet for the locations further South but I presume they will be on someone's visit list one day.

Not too late for wish lists to be added.....

Only a couple of weeks until I head to London, followed by Hampshire and then on to France.

    Hi Dave,

Seems like you are almost set for the great explore - Hope it gives you a lot of pleasure as it did me.

As an aside - Did you attend the Bomber Command Memorial day at Amberley?

    Cheers

Cheers Spidge - I didn't get a guernsey for the Bomber Command do. I am in a different unit at the moment and these events are almost getting to be by invite only.

Cheers Paul - I will see what I can do

Just used the Google map link from the CWGC - it looks like I will be all but driving past it on my way down from London

The 466/462sq friends I met in Sydney and Canberra were invited there and there were a few of the squadrons veterans in attendance as well.

    Hi,

If anyone is going to these cemeteries (I see a couple are listed already) I would be VERY VERY grateful of the following photos:

Batignolles Cemetery, Paris (17th arrondissement, just off the periphique) - General views of entrance and interior
Bayeux - war memorial general views and two graves (please PM me)
Clichy Northern Cemetery - General views of the entrance and interior
Chambon Communal Cemetery - General views of entrance gate and interior

    Cheers

Hi Skip - I will add these to my list of possibles. I think I am going to Chambon & Clichy but to cemeteries with different names? I will check that out on my map.

As for Bayeux there was a thread a few days ago where all sorts of people went there and photographed stuff for another forum member, maybe you can get on that.

Cheers Dave - very much appreciate that.

Chambon and Clichy will be the same ones. Chambon Communal Cemetery is the only one in the village (where Ian Fenwick is buried) and Clichy is the British War Cemetery plot within Clichy Northern Cemetery. Any general views of the entrance gates and the interiors would be most appreciated.

I fear I've missed the boat on specific requests for Bayeux - I had hoped to get over there myself but its not to be

Thanks for getting back to me

So, I’m back from my trip and I am battling the worst jetlag I’ve ever experienced coupled with some sort of flu I picked up in France just before I left.

But I have managed to catalogue all of the photos I took at various cemeteries in the Paris area, plus to the south & west of the city. The only town I didn't make it to on the west of Paris that I planned to was La Bernerie-En-Retz Communal Cemetery.

I am going to attempt to load all of the images to IMGUR for anyone who wants them, organised by location. UPDATE: first time trying IMGUR and I'm not certain I like it. I am back to trying DROPBOX - I think it will be simpler, it just means that anyone who wants photos will need to PM me with their email address and I can add them as a user (share link).

I will load onto this thread all of the names from the gravestones and details of anything else that I photographed. In some of the larger cemeteries I didn’t photograph every grave due to it either being too hot, too rainy (yes, that happened from one day to the next) or I was short of time.

I will also load links back to this thread on all of the other threads I referenced to get my list of wants from other users.
