A new series of Foyle's War comes to ITV tonight. I hope it lives up to the previous ones, which I have enjoyed very much.

    Any opinions on this series?

Love it! Here's to more of the same... folk might also like to know there is another programme later tonight on itv -

    Fooling Hitler
Dramatic reconstruction of Operation Bodyguard, a four-year top secret mission during World War Two. Through careful deception and unorthodox schemes, a group of twelve men, including soldiers, film stars, and inventors had Hitler convinced the D-Day landings would take place at Calais in July 1944, a whole month later than the planned attack in Normandy. Starring Jason Durr, Howard Attfield and Peter Pacey

Great depiction of a side of the war about which little is written. Both Public Television and BBC America carry British shows - we caught three episodes of Foyle's War - Series Two, hopefully we will not have to wait too long for the new ones. First class performance by Michael Kitchen as Foyle - I cannot recall who played the part of his ATS driver - my wife and I thought she was first class!

Taken as a straight detective story, I thought it was a great plot, well played as usual and loads of 1941 atmosphere.

What I did find implausible was Foyle being given access to a SOE training establishment. I don't think this would have happened and I think that someone higher up than Foyle would have had a "quiet word" to tell him to drop the case.

But I don't want to say much more in case anyone has it on tape and has yet to watch it, or lives across the pond and is going to see it next year.

Reading this the first time I was surprised you'd momentarily forgotten it was your wife who played the driver! sorry, my mistake...

Really enjoyed the first episode. Sunday viewing at its best.

Atholl, if only if but it were true! We have performed in both leading and supporting roles in amateur theatre, alas some years ago. However, my wife Anne is delighted at the thought that she may be still active!

Just been watching the opening sequencies of tonights episode of Foyles war.

    Did anybody else notice that

A: The germans were in a Lancaster cockpit!

B: Amongst the wreckage was the control box for an ARC52 UHF Aircraft radio! First produced in the 1960s!

I also liked the way that the German murderer was landed by U-boat with full pilot kit and made his way inland to recreate a parachute landing: wouldn't it have been quicker and easier to have him dropped from another 'plane (since he needed to be caught)?

Ah, much is explained. I fell asleep about half an hour before the end. My husband said this morning that it was the dastardly hun who did it, but did not elaborate.

As for the aircraft scenes, I guess the devil was in the detail.

Did you also notice that despite the fact that the first two "Airman" had jumped from a aircraft, their kit was remarkably clean and new. Also, they both understood english!

The "Radar" set used by the germans was an old style oscilloscope showing a modified square wave rather than the "spikes" associated with the early sets.

Plus the Computer image of a Dornier 217 did not have the "Stags Horns" yagi aerials for the radar.

Foyles War is a Charming, light drama series,if taken as its meant as a piece of entertainment,A pleasant enough way to pass an hour or so on a Winter's Sunday Night
