How would I find out my grandfathers vehicle formation numbers and what patches he would have worn, I understand he would have had the reme ones but other than that I'm unsure. Where's the best place to look?
You would need to find out which unit he served with, then following on from that, the formation with which his unit was attached. If he served with more than one unit, which is likely being REME, you may have difficulty however the formation is likely to be the same (ie brigade or division). Dave.
It's the same one as mentioned in my signature, I know he was attached to first army and it was a port workshop will look through the war diaries and see if I can obtain any information
