I have been searching the internet trying to find a realistic WW2 strategy game. Realism where armour values and penetration tables etc. all apply. Google came up with an old thread on these forum. On that thread were many suggestions for WW2 strategy games, along with FPS. However, a favourite game of mine wasn't mentioned, so here I am to put that right! Bear with me!

Forgotten Hope 2 is a mod for Battlefield 2, a game you can pick up for £5 or so, very cheap. It is the follow on to Forgotten Hope which was a mod for Battlefield 1942. In FH1 EVERY theatre was created, ALL major weapons, tanks, ships, aeroplanes and nations were made with many, many maps to play on. All done to be realistic.

It has now moved on to FH2 on Battlefield 2 for a better visual experience and to also be free of many engine restraints that were present on BF1942. What you have now is a game with many realistic aspects, a great community and tons of fun to play!

forgottenhope.warumdarum.de is the homepage where, if you look through the archives, you will see the quality of the work being done.

They are currently working on the western front, with only the desert campaign completed so far. That doesn't seem much but the qaulity is truly outstanding. To give you an idea, the allies have Matilda II's, Valentines, Vickers MKVI B's, Daimlers, Stuart 'Honey', Crusaders, Cruiser's, Grants, Shermans and lots of other transport and utility vehicles.

The axis have PZII's, PZIII in various marks, Marders, PZIV's in various marks and the Tiger, along with various Italian tanks.

On top of all this, each side has all the major air units, handheld weapons and various other 'bits-and-bobs' of this time. Then you get to the reality aspect. Matilda II sssllloowwwlllyyy crawls farward. PZII's, PZIII's and the short barreled PZIV's shells all bounce off the Matilda. However, the PZIII and up have a handfull of the special shells which will penetrate the Matilda's armour from the side etc. Shermans shells bounce off the Tiger, as they would normally. Np, shoot out its tracks instead.

I have played Red Orchestra and I honestly believe the whole gameplay for FH2 is far superior, and realistic.

Give it a whirl! :D Here are a few videos I urge you to watch.

    Welcome aboard pentegal!

I recently became aware of this modification, but am however having trouble installing it.

Another new member on this forum, Fuchs, seems to be quite into the game though.

    Thank you, Kjaersgaard.

I may be able to help you with any problems you may encounter. I have a good knowledge of what needs to be done and if all else fails, a good community who will be more than likely able to help.

What seems to be causing you trouble?

    Cheers.

I keep receiving the same errors:

    fhpatcher error

"Failing with the root directory directory doesn't exist because: !wxFilename::DirExists(this->root)"

"patch verification failed: The root directory doesn't exist"

Me and my clan focus on this game. I can tell you everything about it, history, gameplay, community, everything. But the technical problems is something I fail at.
Feel free to register on the FH2 forums.

Take me as a question answerer on FH2 :P

I should have asked what patches and version you have downloaded.

The best thing I can suggest is clear your FH2 and uninstall BF2. Make sure you go back to their original location and delete any cache files etc. Exterminate it from your machine.

Now, in this order, install BF2, install the latest BF2 patch from Battlefield 2 Patch (Retail Update) Battlefield 2 v1.41 Patch Download File on FileFront or wherever you prefer.

Then install the lastest FH2 version which is 2.15. There are many places to get it from. >>important-=-read-=-the-ReAdMe<< is the password for the file, if it prompts you to enter one.

That should do the trick. If it doesnt, or you have already done this then let me know and I will see what else I can find.

You should make more time, it looks great but it plays even better.
Plus check out the main site once in a while (fhmod.org) to see the updates. Latest 2 feature the new map Purple Heart Lane. If you thought the one from Brothers in Arms was good, this one will make you stunned.
Also Panzer IV H is now ingame as is the 30-cal.
Oh and alot of ingame screenshots from Normandy which do pretty well as backgrounds for my computer

    He speaks the truth!!!!

There are always tournaments going on where teamplay happens. Proper tactics etc. If you can, give it a go!

The only one thing I would say is the learning curve is a little harsh, but once you get the hang of it you will love it.

And if you are low on time, just wait for the Normandy release which is expected this summer around may/june/july. Yes, it could even be on the end of this month :)
My personal gamble is halfway June, 15 to 20.
Normandy will also boost the playerbase alot and you got more variety with the maps and theatres and warring nations.
